A version of timsTOF fleX with MALDI-2 post-ionization to expand the chemical coverage and sensitivity of MSI.
After the initial MALDI desorption, the second laser ionizes neutral molecules in the cloud above the sample, which reduces the suppression effects and expands the range of detectable lipids, metabolites, and other classes of small molecules.
Depending on the sample, analyte and matrix, MALDI-2 increases sensitivity by 1-3 orders of magnitude. The platform stores TIMS separation, CCS and dual-source ESI/MALDI workflows.
