Photobioreactors for phototrophic cultures – from laboratory screening to 100,000 liters

Photobioreactors for phototrophic cultures – from laboratory screening to 100,000 liters
bubbly, tubular and sterilizable in-situ performances with a customizable light spectrum
The xCUBIO phar range of photobioreactors covers laboratory screening, pilot and industrial cultivation of phototrophic organisms – from 0.5 liter bubbling columns to production systems up to 100,000 liters.
For laboratory screening of strains and media, bubbling systems xCUBIO phar bubble (up to 24 columns of 0.5-1.0 liters with separate lighting control for each line) and a tubular reactor xCUBIO phar tubular with a volume of about 5 liters with a spiral borosilicate tube and continuous recycling of culture through a central process vessel are designed. For pilot and industrial scaling, vapourized modular systems xCUBIO phar in-situ with a volume of 25-500 liters (including 30/55 liters and 100/175 liters) and xCUBIO phar PBR production systems with a volume of up to 100,000 liters for greenhouse and open cultivation are used.
The lighting is provided in separate channels with independent wavelength and intensity settings; in bubble systems, four independently controlled spectral channels per vessel are available, including the possibility of operating in the UV and IR bands for specialized tasks. CO₂ dosing uses gas-flow controllers, with exhaust gas composition monitored for oxygen and carbon dioxide. Optical density/biomass sensors can be integrated; automation is built on the xCUBIO platform with sequence graphics editors and valve logic.
